The National Cheng Kung University purchased a few dozens of mechanism teaching models by Shimadzu Company from Japan during 1920s, a time coincident with the foundation of this university. Presently, there are 40 models survived and preserved by the Ancient Chinese Machinery Research Lab of Department of Mechanical Engineering. Also, these models are the core of the National Cheng Kung University Collection.In addition to the Shimadzu models, the university also gathered five antique mechanism teaching models from W. M. Welch Scientific Company in Chicago and one from another lost issue. So, there are totally 46 models survived and represented by the National Cheng Kung University Collection.
